Play Sudoku in Dark Mode

This page opens classic Sudoku in dark mode so you can start solving on a calmer, lower-glare board immediately. The puzzle is the same classic 9x9 Sudoku game: fill every row, column, and 3x3 box with the digits 1 through 9 without repeating a number.

Use the difficulty buttons above the grid to choose Easy, Medium, Hard, or Expert. The timer, notes, undo, hints, and new-game controls all work exactly as they do on our regular classic Sudoku page.

Dark mode is available on all our games

The sun/moon button in the navigation bar switches the whole site between light mode and dark mode. Your choice is saved, so when you open another Sudoku variant it will use the same theme.

How to Toggle Dark Mode

Look for the moon or sun icon in the top navigation. Select the moon to use dark mode, or select the sun to return to light mode. On mobile, open the menu first and then use the same icon.

The setting works across our Sudoku games, including Easy Sudoku, Hard Sudoku, Daily Sudoku, Killer Sudoku, and Jigsaw Sudoku.

Why Use Sudoku Dark Mode?

Dark mode is useful when you want to solve puzzles in the evening, in a dim room, or on a bright phone screen that feels too intense. Sudoku is a concentration game: you scan rows, compare candidates, and revisit the same cells many times. A darker interface can make those longer sessions feel easier on the eyes.

It is also helpful for players who prefer reduced glare. The dark board keeps the grid, given numbers, selected cells, notes, and mistakes visible without making the whole page feel bright. If you use pencil marks often, the softer contrast can make the puzzle feel less visually busy.

Benefits of Solving Sudoku in Dark Mode

  • Lower glare: A darker page can feel more comfortable in low-light rooms.
  • Better evening play: The grid is easier to keep open at night without a bright white background.
  • Focused solving: The puzzle area stands out while the rest of the page stays quiet.
  • Consistent preference: Once you choose dark mode, the setting follows you to other Sudoku games on the site.
  • Easy switching: You are never locked in; the same icon changes the page back to light mode.

Dark Mode vs Light Mode

There is no single best theme for every player. Light mode can be excellent during the day, especially in bright rooms. Dark mode often feels better at night or when you want a softer screen. The best Sudoku theme is the one that helps you stay relaxed, accurate, and patient.

Tips for a Better Dark Sudoku Session

  1. Use notes on Medium, Hard, and Expert puzzles so you do not have to hold every candidate in your head.
  2. Keep your screen brightness comfortable; dark mode works best when the display is not too bright.
  3. Use the selected-cell highlight to scan related rows, columns, and boxes before placing a number.
  4. Take a short break if the grid starts to blur. A fresh look often reveals the next move.
